CBD: A Cannabinoid that May Provide Natural Pain Relief for Dogs

Can CBD act as‌ a‌ ‌‌natural‌ ‌anti-inflammatory‌ ‌for‌ ‌dogs‌?‌ ‌CBD‌ opened‌ ‌a‌ ‌world‌ ‌of‌ ‌possibilities‌ ‌in‌ the medical industry, not just for humans, but “man’s best friend” has not been left out.‌ ‌CBD actually interacts very similarly across the board with all mammalian bodies, that includes dogs, cats, horses, and even whales (although you’d probably have to spend a pretty penny to dose a full-grown whale with CBD).

Although conclusive evidence is still lacking, some of CBD's‌ most often recorded ‌effects from users ‌‌include‌ ‌relieving‌ ‌severe‌ ‌pain,‌ ‌increasing‌ ‌sleep,‌ ‌and‌ ‌improving‌ ‌concentration.‌

CBD‌ ‌works ‌through‌ ‌the‌ endocannabinoid ‌system. A system composed of 3 main elements, among which we find endocannabinoid receptors‌ which are directly responsible for interacting with incoming cannabinoids in the body. It is through this interaction that the cannabinoid’s effects on the body are triggered. Effects that include ‌natural‌ ‌pain‌ ‌relief‌ ‌for‌ ‌dogs.

The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD make it an ideal aid in combating severe pain in dogs suffering from conditions like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and irritable bowel syndrome. Most of these diseases develop due to a weak immune system; CBD helps by activating certain functions in the body that help reduce inflammation.

Success cases using CBD in conditions like pain caused by intervertebral discs, general chronic pain, and neuropathic pain have also been reported by pet owners. CBD’s benefits are said to be more strongly present when used in long-term treatments. Some side effects, like diarrhea, have been found in testing groups for medical studies, but have turned out to be directly correlated with the dose amounts. Side effects have proven to be non-serious in most cases, but veterinary consultation is recommended before deciding to dose any type of dog with CBD.

This suggestion is due mainly to the fact that not all CBD products are suitable for dogs; some substances used in human CBD oils can be harmful to animals. This being the reason why it’s also recommended that you purchase products formulated specifically for pets. Dosage size must also be consulted with a veterinary professional because every dog is an entirely independent case.

Making sure that every CBD treat or tincture you use on your dog is adequate for them depends on your dog’s taste and tolerance to new substances. If your pet has never taken CBD before, then the best option is to start with small doses and increase progressively as their body gets used to an alien substance.

Hemmfy articles and blogs are meant to entertain and educate. However, we are not medical professionals and do not intend to give medical advice through them.

The knowledge around CBD and other cannabis-derived products is growing and constantly changing, as does their legal status. Hence, we recommend checking with your local authorities and a licensed physician prior to consumption.
