Dealing With Pet Anxiety? CBD Dog Treats You Should Look Into

Dosing your pets with cannabis may seem like a strange decision at first. Especially if you’re not familiar with the safety of Cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids when it comes to animals, more specifically, pets.

However:

It’s not a secret that cannabis companies are constantly launching different CBD pet products intending to help our pets with a wide variety of physical and neurological issues. So much so, that it has even become hard to keep up with the products we sell right here at Hemmfy.

Whether it works or not is still up for debate and needs to be determined by the FDA and other regulating organizations in the country. What we can promise is that every single brand we carry on our website has gone through a screening process and complies fully with all legal, safety, and quality requirements.

Not only that:

Up ahead you’ll find a list of our top-selling CBD treats for dogs, concentrating on those that claim to be specifically formulated as CBD dog treats for anxiety.

Is CBD Safe for Dogs?

The safety and risks of using CBD for dogs haven’t been largely researched, although there are CBD studies that have been done on dogs that have allowed scientists to draw some conclusions. Even though the FDA has not issued a formal approval of CBD as a prescription medication for pets in general, the distribution and sale of CBD for pets as a supplement still happens, but not as a drug to treat any kind of malady or symptom.

And as per the FDA, “the drug approval process represents the best way to ensure that safe and effective new medicines, including any drugs derived from cannabis, are available to patients in need of appropriate medical therapy.”[1]

However:

There are other entities like the National Animal Supplement Council (NASC) that interviews prospective companies for their potential approval to join their ranks and do so to evaluate whether or not these companies comply with the FDA’s allowances for animal products that contain CBD or other cannabis derivatives.

While the overall safety of animal CBD products needs to be further assessed,  based on how CBD affects humans and the results found in a recent study on the safety and pharmacokinetics of CBD on dogs, we can say that it’s not out of the question for potential side effects on dogs to be similar to those commonly experienced by humans who surpass their CBD tolerance threshold.

Some of the most commonly reported side effects of CBD on mammals include tiredness, diarrhea, and changes in appetite/weight [3].

Unfortunately, the FDA has not approved CBD and has not issued a dosing chart for it, so the amounts of CBD you could give your dog are not stipulated officially, aside from the serving sizes found on product labels.

That said:

The best advice would be to always check with a licensed veterinarian before giving CBD to your pets. If you do decide on doing so then always start with a small dose and closely monitor the effects, checking in and consulting with your veterinarian regularly.

How to Identify the Best CBD Dog Treats for Anxiety

The first thing you want to make sure you do is to always purchase CBD products from a licensed retailer like Hemmfy. Buying your products from trustworthy sources ensures quality and less risk of purchasing a counterfeit product.

Apart from the obvious, you’ll also need to make sure that the CBD serving sizes in the CBD dog treats for anxiety you are buying comply with the suggestions given to you by your pet’s veterinarian. While some products are labeled ‘calm’ or ‘anxiety’, you’ll want to read the ingredients list first and make sure that what you’re giving your pets is well tolerated by them.

Hemmfy articles and blogs are meant to entertain and educate. However, we are not medical professionals and do not intend to give medical advice through them.

The knowledge around CBD and other cannabis-derived products is growing and constantly changing, as does their legal status. Hence, we recommend checking with your local authorities and a licensed physician prior to consumption.
