Celebrate 420 With These Delta-8 Products

With 420 around the corner and Delta 8 THC slowly becoming one of the most sought-after cannabinoids in the market, we thought it would be a good idea to give you a few pointers on what products to go with.

But it was also an excellent opportunity to brush up on what 420 is and why we celebrate it.

What Is 420?

420 is a shortening of the date nomenclature for April 20th (4/20). You probably know by now that 420 has been labeled an unofficial holiday in the cannabis community.

Cannabis enthusiasts have used 420 for decades as a makeshift, counter-culture, cult, or underground ‘holiday’ where people hang out with friends and enjoy the festivities that the community has to offer. Often these involve large group gatherings where people listen to concerts and consume cannabis, primarily smoked.

For many, 420 is still a date where you gather with your best friends and, well, ‘smoke a lot of weed.’ But as the industry evolves, 420 evolves with it.

That frequent cannabis consumers who are now interpreting their use of marijuana as something much more than a recreational drug will also be interpreting 420 a bit differently.

The date has also often been used as a ‘land site’ for advocacy, most commonly for events destined to help the cause of non-violent cannabis offenders along with changes in laws and regulations.

Lately, as cannabis consumption becomes more mainstream, companies have taken a more commercial approach to 420.

Because it is a date that moves masses, companies that have been benefitted from the latest changes in cannabis regulations take the opportunity to promote their brand during the so-called holiday. Discounts, deals, and events are all widespread for companies in the cannabis industry to host.

Cannabis has also been considered a source of wellbeing and a powerful aid to a healthy lifestyle by people worldwide. While the new commercially-minded approach to 420 is not appreciated by many, it is also an opportunity for many others to find wellbeing in the natural compounds of the cannabis plant.

In other words, it’s a way to spread the word about what cannabis is all about.

So, why is 420 a national weed day?

The history and background of 420 are unclear. Nobody is sure where it originated from with specificity. All that’s clear about 420 is that cannabis enthusiasts use it to celebrate their ‘bond’ to the plant.

However, there are a few popular theories you can choose from. None is more ‘solid’ than the next, so it’s basically up to you to decide which of the stories you like the best and go with that one.

The History of 420 Day

More than a holiday, 420 has been a traditionally counter-cultural way to advocate for cannabis use—more of an underground celebration than an official one.

But that’s slowly disappearing as cannabis hops onto the mainstream.

Its underground roots still stand proud, and the multiple stories told as the origins of 420 reflect precisely that. These are a few of the most popular 420 origin stories:

The California Penal Code Story

A theory says the original criminal code used to punish marijuana distributions in California was 420. However, there is no evidence to this theory, and the 420 code used today applies to obstruction of entries to public land.

The Police Radio Code Theory

Like the penal code theory, some claim that the origin of 420 was the police radio code for cannabis-related incidents. This would make a lot of sense and make the story behind the number very fun, but there isn’t a 420 police radio call that confirms this.

However, the theory could still be true if you consider that the San Francisco police code for ‘juvenile disturbance’ is 420.

Remember that Bob Dylan Song?

Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 is a song by Bob Dylan that was first released to the public in 1966. Coincidentally enough, it was released in April.

The lyrics to the song sing the words “Everybody must get stoned,” and if you multiply 12 x 35, the result is, you guessed it, 420.

The Waldos State Their Claim on 420

You’ve also probably heard of the story of a group of California high school students that used to meet every day after school at 4:20 pm to smoke marijuana together.

Soon enough, 4:20 would become a code for them to use in front of people who didn’t need to know about their cannabis smoking habits. This group of students called themselves “The Waldos.”

In the Walls of Eryx by H.P. Lovecraft

My favorite origin story is the one that alludes to the 1939 short story, “In the Walls of Eryx,” written by H.P. Lovecraft. The story describes plants that seem to fit the description of marijuana and to be psychoactive to the narrator when his watch hit exactly 4:20.

The Truth

The truth is that we’ll never know what the actual origin of the term is. All we know is what it represents and what it has represented in the past.

But more importantly, that it’s a time where 420 is no longer that much of a taboo, and we can take that as a nudge for us to try new cannabis-derived products.

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta 9 THC is the most common variety of THC globally and is mainly recognized for being the ONLY psychoactive component found in cannabis.

Delta 9 THC is specifically found in marijuana, a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant known for delivering psychoactive effects on the body.

Unlike marijuana, hemp is a non-psychoactive version of the plant that can be farmed and harvested legally in the U.S., making all hemp-derived products with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC legal as well.

Recently, experts discovered that there are other versions of THC that can be sourced from hemp. The only difference being that these have a different chemical bond structure. Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC being the latest discoveries, and the cannabinoids are taking up most of the attention in the market today.
