CBE: Cannabielsoin

Learn about CBE cannabinoid and more in this article on cannabielsoin.

Wondering what is CBE? This article covers the mysterious cannabinoid and everything there is to know about it.

What is CBE?

CBE or cannabielsoin is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and hemp.

Scientists first discovered CBE in the early 1970s and although they had isolated the molecule it took them a year to figure out the root of its formation.

They discovered that CBE is a metabolite of CBD, or cannabidiol, the primary cannabinoid in most types of Hemp. However, it wasn’t until more than 15 years later that a team of Japanese researchers officially confirmed that CBE is formed from CBD during the metabolic process in mammals.

Is CBE Legal?

CBE isn’t banned by any UN convention nor is it scheduled under the Controlled Substances Act in the USA.

As long as CBE does not exceed more than .3% THC content it is legally defined as Hemp, not marijuana, and is legal at the federal level in the USA.

How to Extract CBE

If you want to extract CBE from Hemp or Cannabis to make a cannabinoid concentrate or CBE tincture, then you’ll need to start with CBD.

Although measurable, only minute amounts of CBE are present in hemp and cannabis. Rather, CBD converts to CBE through biotransformation, the natural alteration of a compound within the body.

Although in small amounts compared to other cannabinoids such as CBN, CBL, and CBG, CBE was detected in cannabis found within a 2,700-year-old tomb discovered in China in 2008.

While it seems there may be a natural degradation of CBD into CBE, if you want to extract CBE from cannabis directly, you might have to wait a while.

Is CBE Intoxicating

CBE is considered non-psychoactive and non-intoxicating, which means that it won’t make you feel high or stoned as with cannabis and THC.

Due to being a metabolite derivative of cannabidiol, it shares the same inability to stimulate CB1 receptors responsible for inducing the euphoric and psychedelic sensations associated with THC.

Benefits of CBE

The benefits or adverse effects of CBE are not known. Prohibition of hemp and cannabis is generally to blame for the staunch lack of clinical cannabinoid research.

Little is known about the therapeutic properties of cannabielsoin. Early results from limited animal studies indicate that CBE has little impact on inducing sleep or affecting body temperature.

Although CBE is a secondary cannabinoid with little research available, a growing body of research suggests that a full spectrum of cannabinoids may have a more beneficial effect than only a few cannabinoids.

This refers to a phenomenon known as the entourage effect and CBE could play an important role in the synergistic mechanism and corresponding therapeutic properties of cannabinoids.
