Learn about CBD

What is CBD?

CBD is the primary cannabinoid found in Hemp. It’s non-psychoactive and legal in all 50 states and all US territories. CBD is short for cannabidiol and is just one of 120+ naturally occurring compounds in Hemp, called cannabinoids.

CBD has powerful anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, stress-relieving and sedative-like properties and is generally well tolerated by most adults.

How does CBD work in the body?

Welcome to the Endocannabinoid System!
The endocannabinoid system is a network of specialized receptor cells and biochemicals that bind with them, called cannabinoids. Endocannabinoid receptor cells are found throughout the brain and body and work to regulate and balance nearly every aspect of health and wellness. The body synthesizes endocannabinoids, such as anandamide and 2-AG, from within the body’s tissues on-demand as needed.

They can be thought of as short-order neurotransmitters that activate endocannabinoid system activity, sending instructions to other vital body functions.

Why Do People Take CBD?

The most common reasons reported for taking CBD Oil are stress and sleep relief, but many consumers also report taking CBD for skin, muscle, and joint issues related with pain and inflammation.

Other reason reported for taking CBD Oil include

  • Daytime focus
  • Symptoms related with depression and anxiety
  • High blood pressure
  • Neurological issues such as ticks, spasms, and shaking
  • And much more

Is there THC in CBD products?

Is There THC In CBD? Some types of CBD products contain trace amounts of THC.

Full-Spectrum CBD contains under 0.3% (trace amounts) of THC. Broad-Spectrum and CBD isolate products are free from any THC content. The trace amounts of THC in Full-Spectrum CBD Oil aren’t strong enough to create a psychoactive effects, but it may show up on a drug test. We recommend anyone subjected to a drug test not take hemp or CBD related products.

Is CBD Psychoactive/Will CBD Get Me High?

CBD is non-psychoactive and will not cause you to feel high or alter your state of mind. CBD does have a powerful calming effect that can boost mood and encourage rest and relaxation.

The Entourage Effect

What Is the Entourage Effect? The entourage effect refers to the phenomenon of exponentially enhanced benefits of CBD in the presence of whole-plant hemp compounds such as secondary cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. To read more about The Entourage effect scroll to the section on "Other Cannabinoids."

Does CBD oil need to be refrigerated?

You do not need to refrigerate CBD Oil. The best way to store CBD is in a cool, dark place. Cool meaning between sixty to seventy degrees Fahrenheit. Both light and heat exposure degrade cannabinoids, which can reduce the potency and effect of CBD Oil. Refrigerating CBD Oil may cause it to solidify and can affect the molecular integrity of CBD Oil.

Is CBD water soluble?

CBD is not water-soluble. Simply put, oil and water don’t mix. However, using a nanoparticle high-pressure emulsion method allows CBD oil to be “infused” into water. This creates what’s known as water-soluble CBD and allows manufacturers to craft different types of CBD beverages such as water, beer, and energy drinks.

Other Cannabinoids

What are Cannabinoids and Terpenes?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is just one of over 120+ naturally occurring compounds in Hemp. Most of these compounds are called cannabinoids and include CBD, THC, CBG, CBN, and others.

While there are dozens of unique cannabinoids in Hemp, the most prevalent active compounds are CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol).

Other important compounds found in Hemp include Terpenes. Terpenes are aromatic molecules found throughout nature and they give Hemp its iconic aromas and flavors. Similar to cannabinoids, terpenes also have unique and diverse properties with potential health benefits such as relaxation, stimulation, increased appetite and focus, and much more.

Keep reading to learn how cannabinoids and terpenes interact and why it matters when it comes to finding relief with CBD.

What is Full-Spectrum CBD?

Full-Spectrum CBD Oil is CBD that contains the entire naturally occurring chemical profile of CBD Hemp. This includes Cannabinol (CBN), Cannibigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), as well as THC, terpenes, and flavonoids.

As long as Full-Spectrum CBD Oil contains less than 0.3% THC content it is defined as Hemp and not marijuana. That means it is fully legal in the USA. Because Full-Spectrum CBD products only contain trace amounts of THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana, it won’t make you feel high or alter your state of mind.

As mentioned, CBD in the presence of a Full-Spectrum of naturally occurring hemp compounds creates a synergistic phenomenon where its beneficial properties are exponentially amplified.

This phenomenon is referred to as “The Entourage Effect.”

Other Questions

What is the difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

The primary difference between Hemp and Marijuana is their chemical composition. In the US, Hemp is defined as containing less than 0.3% THC content and primarily characterized by CBD and terpene content. Due to innately containing only trace amounts of the psychoactive cannabinoid THC, Hemp doesn’t cause any of the deleterious side effects to vision or motor coordination that are associated with marijuana. Hemp and Marijuana of two types of the same plant species known as cannabis.

Differences between MCT and Hemp Oil

To manufacture CBD consumer products, raw hemp extract is typically diluted into a carrier oil to create various potencies and formulations.

The carrier oil makes CBD Oil easier to administer. Also, cannabinoids such as CBD are hydrophobic and need to be combined with other fatty oils for optimal absorption and bioavailability in the body.

MCT-rich Coconut oil and Hemp Oil are generally the most common types of carrier oils used in CBD products.

Coconut oil is naturally high in MCT Oils and is said to provide many potential health benefits including energy boost and healthier blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Hemp Oil comes directly from the Hemp plants and is primarily sourced from hemp seed, which contains an ideal balance between beneficial fatty omega-6 and omega-3 acids. Omega fatty acids are vital to healthy brain function, normal growth and development, as well as stimulating skin and hair to grow.

They are also said to help maintain bone and reproductive health, as well as regulate metabolism.

What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found throughout the biosphere in plants and some insects and bacteria. In nature, terpenes are used to attract beneficial pollinators and deter harmful predators.

In Hemp, Terpenes play an important role in guiding the effects of cannabinoids, activating the entourage effect, and finding relief.

The endocannabinoid system is a network of specialized receptor cells and biochemicals that bind with them, called cannabinoids.

Endocannabinoid receptor cells are found throughout the brain and body and work to regulate and balance nearly every aspect of health and wellness. The body synthesizes endocannabinoids, such as anandamide, from within the body’s tissues on-demand as needed to address functions such as stress response, excitement, and others.

Also known as “the bliss molecule,” anandamide plays an important role in balancing multiple bodily functions such as emotion and pleasure, appetite, sleepiness, energy, fertility, and much more.

They can be thought of as short-order neurotransmitters that activate endocannabinoid system activity, sending instructions to other vital body functions.

What Are The Different Types Of Extraction?

There are many methods of CBD extraction and various types of CBD extracts. Generally, the cleanest and safest methods of CBD Hemp extraction are Supercritical CO2 and ethanol. These methods employ carbon dioxide or high grain alcohol to strip cannabinoids and terpenes from plant material.

All methods essentially leverage temperature, pressure, and isolating chambers to extract beneficial compounds from Hemp.

What is Industrial Hemp?

Industrial hemp is hemp that’s cultivated specifically for its fibrous stalk and nutritious hemp seeds and is not considered an ideal source of phytocannabinoids and terpenes.
